Before Sleep Comes.
Around 2003, I had been gigging, and recording for about 16 years non-stop.
The body told me to stop, and I didn’t listen.
During that year I developed acute tendonitis in my right arm, and also nodules on the vocal chords.
Suddenly the body got my full attention.
I stopped playing and singing, for the first time since I was about 12 years old.
It lasted about 18 months.
After the initial shock, I leaned into the stillness, and said ‘ok, what can you actually do now…..?’
I bought a classical guitar, and began to gently learn, and then compose lullabies.
I was living in Kildare, and down the road was an amazing old mill owned by Eoin O’Toole, a remarkable man.
He had onsite a wee studio, run by Mark Gavin.
Mark recorded these songs over a few nights.
Brian Masterson mastered the recordings.
Brideog ni Rinn created the cover.
This record was created as a healing exercise for myself.
And I have been amazed by the positive reaction to it.
